NAGLEAD VS HUBSPOT: WHY LESS IS MORE FOR SOLO SERVICE BUSINESSES

HubSpot is the most popular CRM in the world. It's also built for marketing teams at B2B companies with sales pipelines, email sequences, and lead scoring. If you're a solo plumber, cleaner, or electrician trying to remember who to call back, that's like buying a semi truck to haul groceries.

This isn't a hit piece on HubSpot. It's a genuinely great product for the businesses it's designed for. But "free CRM" shows up in every Google search, and a lot of solo service business owners sign up thinking they've found the answer. Then they spend a weekend setting it up, open it once on Monday, and never touch it again.

THE HONEST COMPARISON

Look at the "Yes" column under HubSpot. Email marketing. Sales pipeline. Lead scoring. Those are powerful features. They're also features that a solo landscaper or HVAC tech will never use. Not once.

WHY FREE DOESN'T MEAN SIMPLE

HubSpot's free tier is genuinely generous. You get contacts, deals, tasks, email tracking, and more. The problem isn't the price. It's the complexity.

When you sign up for HubSpot, you're asked to:

  • Set up your pipeline stages. What stages does a plumbing lead go through? "Called" and "didn't call" covers it. You don't need "Qualified" → "Proposal Sent" → "Negotiation" → "Closed Won."
  • Import your contacts. What contacts? You have 30 leads in your phone's recent calls and a few texts. There's nothing to import.
  • Connect your email and calendar. Your email is personal Gmail. Your calendar is in your head.
  • Create deal properties. You don't have "deals." You have people who called about a leaky faucet and you need to call them back.

Most solo service business owners bounce somewhere in this process. The tool is free. The time to learn and maintain it is not.

THE REAL QUESTION: WHAT DO YOU ACTUALLY NEED?

If you're a solo service business owner, your actual workflow looks like this:

1.Lead comes in (call, text, email, Thumbtack, Google)
2.You're on a job and can't respond right now
3.You need something to remind you to call back
4.You call back, they either book or they don't
5.Done. Next lead.

That's it. No pipeline stages. No email sequences. No lead scoring. You need a list of people to call back and something that won't let you forget.

HubSpot can technically do this. But it's like using Photoshop to crop a photo. The tool can do it, but everything around the one feature you need makes the experience worse, not better.

WHEN HUBSPOT MAKES SENSE

To be fair, here's when HubSpot is the right call:

  • You have a sales team(even 2-3 people) and need to track who's working which lead.
  • You send marketing emails like newsletters, promotions, or seasonal reminders to past customers.
  • You have a long sales cycle with proposals, follow-up meetings, and negotiations.
  • You're a B2B company selling to other businesses, not a service provider selling to homeowners.

If any of those describe you, HubSpot is a great choice. Seriously. It's best-in-class for what it does.

But if you're one person, you sell to homeowners, and your "sales cycle" is "they called, I need to call back" -- you don't need a CRM. You need a nag engine.

THE DECISION IS SIMPLE

  • If you have a team and send marketing emails: HubSpot.
  • If you're solo and just need to call people back: Something simpler. Way simpler.

The most expensive CRM is the one you pay for (even with time) and don't use. The cost of a missed lead isn't the tool you chose. It's the callback you forgot to make because the tool was too annoying to open.

JUST THE FOLLOW-UP. NOTHING ELSE.

NagLead is free for up to 5 active leads. No pipelines to configure, no contacts to import. Add a lead in 5 seconds and get nagged until you call back.
